True
Through and through
Melded and welded to righteousness.
Honest faith, honest works
Humble continuity in my new life.
A Sunday way of life
Every day of my life.
Making this gospel my own,
Living the parables
Bearing the burdens
Sharing the yoke that is easy to lift.
It is easy, brings comfort
When embraced in my heart,
When worn every moment,
When borne as my cross.
My actions agree
With my inmost beliefs.
Conversion, when true,
Makes you and me free.

  1. Some very nice turns of phrase here--melded and welded, Sunday way of life/Every day of life; When worn every moment/When borne as my cross. Those are my favorite lines. The last couplet strikes me as a little bit of "the moral of the story"--is that how you intended it? Can't quite tell if this is a kind of didactic verse or descriptive verse--the genre will indicate the tone.

  2. I like the meter in the second half of the poem. The meter conveys a thoughtfulness that I like.

  3. I too love melded/welded and the image of the cross. And I think you express deep doctrine in your last line - when we finally are converted and no longer have to repeat our sins over and over again, we free ourselves but we also free Christ, who had to suffer for those repeated sins over and over again as well. Wonderful insight, so simply expressed it almost slips past unnoticed. This is one of my favorites, Eva.
